Do We Actually Listen to the Podcasts We Rate? Yes!

Today we’re releasing the October edition of the Media Bias Chart® for podcasts. It contains a representative sample of all of the shows our analysts have rated.

When we release these monthly charts, we often hear from people who disagree with our ratings. (And that’s good – we appreciate your input!) One question we get is, “Do you even listen to these shows?” The answer is a resounding YES!

Our analysts rate both audio and video podcasts every week. We’ve analyzed episodes from 950 news shows and have fully rated 845 of them (once a show is fully rated, it’s added to the Media Bias Chart®). That’s almost 3,500 episodes! And we listen to full episodes, not just clips from them.

We do our best to rate a representative sample from each show, and a weighted average of the episode scores determines where the podcast falls on the chart (learn about our methodology here). But the content of various podcasts can sometimes change over time, so if you feel that we should update our ratings on a particular show, let us know.

The October edition of the Podcast/Audio Media Bias Chart® released today includes 43 podcasts (see a list of those 43 here). We choose a selection of podcasts to include on each month’s static Media Bias Chart because it’s impossible to show all of them in one image. In order to make the logos as large and as readable as possible, we’ve magnified a portion of the chart and removed portions around the edges that contain no sources.

Sources in the green box of the chart are scored by our team as ones that consistently provide minimally biased, fact-based information. On this month’s chart, 11 podcasts fall within the green box:

  • Moniker
  • Bloomberg: Odd Lots
  • CBC News: The World This Hour
  • Fox News Rundown
  • GZERO World with Ian Bremmer
  • Just Asking Questions
  • Minnesota Today
  • NYT: The Ezra Klein Show
  • The Editors
  • This Morning with Gordon Deal
  • UNBIASED Politics

More podcasts fall within the green box, and we’ll feature those on charts in the future.

Six podcasts are included on the chart this month for the first time (two of these fall within the green box):

  • Blunt Force Truth
  • Head in the Office
  • Just Asking Questions
  • Scene on Radio
  • The Roseanne Barr Podcast
  • This Morning with Gordon Deal
