The government is shut down, Israel and Palestine are negotiating a proposed peace plan, National Guard troops are being deployed to states, the U.S. Supreme Court is back in session — there’s a lot of news coming at us all day every day. It can be overwhelming to keep track of it all.

A friend recently told me she has to ignore the news from time to time for her own peace of mind, and I understand. Not only is information continuously being thrown at us — on our phones, our computers and our TVs — but not all of it is factual and unbiased. It’s A LOT to deal with it.

It’s important to remember, though, that there are fact-based and minimally biased sources of information out there, and the Media Bias Chart® can help you find them. The Ad Fontes Media team has rated almost 4,400 websites, podcasts and TV/video sources for their bias and reliability. Today, let’s take a look at websites.

Our analysts have now fully rated more than 79,500 individual articles from websites across the political spectrum. These websites can represent large news organizations like the Associated Press, newsletters like 1440, and Substacks like Letters from an American by Heather Cox Richardson.

Our team spends dozens of hours each week reading and analyzing articles not only for bias, but also for reliability — how reliable is this particular online article or source in providing factual, verifiable information. (You can read about our analysis process here.)

All of these individual article scores are entered into our database, and a weighted average of these determines where an individual source falls on the Media Bias Chart®. This important work has resulted in more than 2,740 web/print sources being fully rated, with new sources added regularly.

Today we’re releasing the October Media Bias Chart® for websites, which features 105 sources. We know it’s hard to read all of the source logos, so we’ve provided a list of those 105 here). We curate a list of sources to include each month because it’s impossible to put all of them in a single image (the logos would overlap and appear on top of one another, and the result would be an image that is impossible to read).

Here’s a list of the sources that fall within the green box on this chart. Our analyst team has found that these sources are generally reliable and minimally biased:
