2025 has been marked by a constant stream of major news stories, from California wildfires to immigration cases, DOGE, tariffs, protests and much more. It’s not surprising, then, that cable TV news programs broke viewership records for the first quarter of the year.
Fox News, which has been the most watched cable news network for more than 20 years, reported its highest-rated quarter in cable news history. It also boasted its highest quarter cable news share ever, with 65% of the total-day audience and 66% in primetime. In fact, of the 15 cable news shows with the most viewership, 14 of them air on Fox News.
High viewership doesn’t necessarily equal high-quality news, however. The bias and reliability of cable news TV programs – even those on the same network – can vary. It’s important to look up your favorite show on the Interactive Media Bias Chart® to make sure you can trust it to provide fact-based and balanced information.
Remember: Sources recommended by our team fall within the green box of the chart. You’ll find several cable TV news shows in the green box of the April Media Bias Chart® for TV/Video we’re releasing today. The 53 sources on the April chart are only a sample of the more than 720 TV/video sources that our team has rated. It’s impossible to show hundreds of logos in one image — they overlap each other, and the result is a completely unreadable chart — so we choose a sample to feature each month. In order to make the logos as large and readable as possible, we have magnified a portion of the chart and removed portions around the edges that contain no sources.
Our analyst team has rated 15 documentaries, including one that was added to the chart this month. Our analysts gave the 2023 film The Coddling of the American Mind, which examines the Gen Z mental health crisis, with a “middle/balanced” bias rating and a reliability rating of “analysis or other issues” (you’ll find it near the middle of the chart). Read about how our ratings of documentaries are different than ratings of other TV/video content here.
In addition to the documentary, five sources appear on the Media Bias Chart® this month for the first time:
- Al Jazeera: Fault Lines
- OAN: Fine Point with Chanel Rion
- Scripps News: Weekend
- Sky News Australia (YouTube)
- The Grayzone (YouTube)
