We’ve come a long way since 2016, when I created the first Media Bias Chart on my own to help family and friends make sense of what had become a hyper-polarized media landscape.
Today, Ad Fontes Media has more than 60 highly trained analysts rating news articles, videos, TV programs and podcasts from 3,000 different sources for reliability and bias. Our dataset now includes 56,328 multi-analyst ratings of articles and episodes, 646 completed podcasts, and 377 TV shows, and growing every day. Each day our analysts rate hundreds of new pieces of content, assuring that our overall source rankings are accurate, relevant, and up-to-date.
Our Media Bias Chart® is the world’s most comprehensive map of the world’s news content, and a vital tool for news consumers, educators, and advertisers. You can read and watch more about how we rank the news on our methodology page.
Since the early days of Ad Fontes, our guiding principle has been that bias itself is not inherently wrong or bad, but it’s vital for the health of our information economy that it be measured and understood.
I wrote some reflections on why I decided to start this company over at Poynter.org with “Why I decided to rate the news.”
