Ad Fontes Media has released its latest flagship Media Bias Chart® just in time for the new school year. Its most recent static chart features 157 news sources, including 12 new never-rated-before websites, 20 podcasts, and 18 news shows and networks.

We produce an updated flagship version of the Media Bias Chart twice per year, in January and August. Why do we call it the flagship? Ad Fontes Media now rates more than 3,000 news sources for bias and reliability — way too many for one chart. So every six months we unveil a new chart that shows the media landscape with a mix of new sources as well as others we’ve been rating for years. It includes a sample of sources we’ve rated across websites, TV/video, and podcast/audio news/news-like sources. Some sources do change over time, so keep an eye out for those!

If you think the static Media Bias Chart with its 157 sources is great, you’ll LOVE the Interactive Media Bias Chart version, where more than 3,000 fully rated sources, including TV shows, websites, podcasts, and video, can be plotted! In addition to the static and interactive Media Bias Charts, we have many useful products you can use for school, business or personal use.

There are 12 new sources making their debut this month: Black Information Network, BorderReport, Broad + Liberty, Connecticut Insider, Conservative Daily News, Flag & Cross, Greg Palast, IGN Entertainment, Political Tribune, The Messenger, The National Pulse, and York Dispatch.

The Messenger, which launched in May, styled itself as an “unbiased” lens on the news. Ad Fontes Media data show it mostly delivered on that promise, falling slightly to the right of middle bias in the Media Bias Chart, where it also rated highly for reliability.

Of the 20 podcasts appearing on the chart this month, three haven’t appeared yet on any static chart: Lex Friedman Podcast, StarTalk Radio, and The Chris Cuomo Project.

The chart includes 18 news networks and TV shows, all of which have been rated in the past, but six are new to the flagship chart: CBN: Faithwire, Epoch TV: California Insider, MSNBC: Velshi, Revolutionary Blackout, Stay Free with Russell Brand, and Triggered with Don Jr. (on Rumble.)

Returning to the chart is a broad swath of the news media, including CNN.com, the CNN TV Network, and three CNN shows, Anderson Cooper 360, CNN Newsroom With Jim Acosta, and Smerconish; Fox News Channel, FoxNews.com, Fox & Friends, Hannity, and Special Report with Bret Baier; and MSNBC TV, MSNBC.com, All In with Chris Hayes, and Velshi.

Thank you for sharing the Media Bias Chart with your family, friends, students, peers, and colleagues. Understanding the reliability and bias of our information sources is key to a healthy democracy, and we all have a role to play in ensuring that!
